Pet Owner Programme

When couples break up, dealing with jointly owned pets can be a complicated and distressing issue. Pets are not only companions in our lives, they are also our responsibility. Therefore, it is crucial to have a pet owner plan for how to deal with pets after a couple breaks up.

Firstly, this plan should clearly set out the division of labour between each owner in terms of the care and responsibilities of the pet. For example, will one of the owners be responsible for making decisions about breeding, training and health management, or will this be mutually agreed upon? These need to be clearly set out in the plan.

Secondly, clear arrangements need to be established for the allocation of the pet's time between the two owners. This could include a weekly or monthly rotation of the time spent caring for the pet, as well as conditions and provisions for suspending the regular schedule in special circumstances.

Finally, the plan should also take into account special circumstances that may arise, such as how to arrange for the care of pets during a holiday and how to deal with pets if one of the parties needs to be away for an extended period of time.

Overall, the purpose of having a pet owner plan is to ensure that the pet remains adequately cared for and loved even after the couple breaks up.
