Australian immigration legal services for clients in Hobart and Tasmania, by video consultation — no need to travel to Melbourne.
Chua Tan Associates has handled Australian immigration law matters since 1990, and two of our lawyers are Accredited Specialists in Immigration Law with the Law Institute of Victoria. Immigration law is federal law: from our Melbourne office we act for Hobart clients by video conference on every kind of visa application, refusal review and judicial review, with documents lodged electronically. We work in Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, Malay and English.
Hobart immigration at a glance (as at October 2026)
- All of Tasmania is regional: Hobart is a Home Affairs Category 2 "city and major regional centre" and the rest of Tasmania is Category 3; all of it can be used for 491 and 494 regional visas.
- Tasmanian nomination 2026–27: Registrations of interest opened on 17 August 2026, with weekly invitation rounds and 2,050 places for the year (1,250 for the 190 and 800 for the 491). The overseas 491 occupation-profile pathway is paused this year; the 190 health and education job-offer pathway remains open to overseas applicants.
- Tasmanian pathways: Tasmanian Skilled Employment, Tasmanian Skilled Graduate, Tasmanian Established Resident and Tasmanian Business Operator. One application can be considered for both the 190 and the 491, ranked on points and gold and green priority attributes.
- Visa refusals: Refusal and cancellation decisions can be reviewed by the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART). Review deadlines are very short, so contact us as soon as you receive a refusal letter.
