You should first check with your lawyer or institution in India their requirements for notarising your documents. You can find more information about using documents for India from the Consulate General of India in Melbourne here https://www.cgimelbourne.gov.in. Many documents do not need authentication by the Indian Consulate. Furthermore, documents in another language for India may not need to be translated to be notarised but you should check what language the signature on the documents needs to be.
Please ensure that any necessary duty stamp is affixed to the document prior to coming to our office if duty stamp is required.

Divorce in India
Please consult with your lawyer in India as to the required documents for notarisation in Melbourne. We can notarise documents as part of divorce proceedings in India but you should check with your Indian lawyer the correct form and contents. In addition, the lawyer in India might need to post bonded paper or stamped paper to Melbourne that includes a prepaid duty for the Indian Government.
Sponsor Indian Student in Melbourne
If you are sponsoring a student who will study in India, we can notarise financial undertaking and surety forms at our Melbourne CBD office. You should seek independent legal advice from India about the terms of the forms as to your liability for the sponsored student’s costs.
Indian Passport Notarisation
We can notarise documents from the Indian Consulate in Melbourne or Victoria Police if you have lost or damaged your Indian passport. If you have a damaged passport, please bring the damaged passport along with the required form approved by the Indian Consulate and/or VFS Global. Indian court documents and affidavit witnessing
Our public notary can witness and notarise affidavits that are required for court proceedings in India from our Melbourne CBD office. You should confirm with your lawyer in India that the content and form of the affidavit is correct.
Indian Pension Life Certificate notarisation in Melbourne
We can notarise the Life Certificate used to claim pensions from India.
Indian Driver Licence Verification
Our public notary can notarise declarations that you are one and the same person if your name on your India Passport does not match your India Driving Licence, e.g. where your name might have an abbreviation or not show the full name, spelling mistakes or changing names after marriage. All other details will need to be identical.
It is cheaper to prepare the statutory declaration yourself but our notary public can prepare it prior to your appointment at our Melbourne CBD office.
You will need to include in the statutory declaration the following:
- your full name;
- your father’s full name;
- your address in Australia;
- your full name, passport number and date of issue and expiry as shown on your Indian passport;
- your name, license number and state of issue as shown on your Indian license; and
- a brief statement about how both the names on your India Passport and Driving Licence relate to you as one and the same person, i.e. an explanation for the difference in the name shown on your passport and license.

What do I do after my documents are notarised?
India is a member of the Apostille Convention so you will usually need to go to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) at the Melbourne Passport Office to obtain an Apostille Stamp. If you value your time and want your documents apostilled quickly and conveniently, we can arrange to liaise with DFAT on your behalf.
