Melbourne Public Notary services for Fiji Documents

Are you in Melbourne and have documents that need to be notarised and used in Fiji?

Our Melbourne Public Notary can notarise your documents so they can be used in Fiji. We often notarise documents intended for Asia Pacific. Clients from Fiji commonly have property they are buying or selling in Fiji, have probate and estate matters to deal with and occasionally legal proceedings. Usually your lawyer in Fiji will prepare the paperwork before you bring the documents to our office to get notarised. We commonly notarise for Fiji the following documents:
  • power of attorney
  • affidavits and declarations for legal proceedings
  • contracts or agreements for buying and selling property
  • probate applications and renunciations for estates
  • residency or citizenship applications in Fiji

If you have any documents that you will sign in Melbourne that will be used in Fiji, you will likely need a Melbourne Notary Public.

Applications for divorce in Fiji

If you are applying for divorce in Fiji and currently live in Melbourne or Australia, you will need to sign the divorce application in front of an Australian notary public. Our Melbourne Notary Public has notarised numerous divorce documents and can verify your identity, witness your signature and notarise your divorce application so that the divorce application can be finalised. Before coming to your appointment at our Melbourne CBD office, please ensure you have completed the divorce application form but left it unsigned, bring your photo identification documents including passport and bring photocopies of your ID.

Our Melbourne Public Notary will then verify you and witness your signature before notarising your divorce application. Please note that in Australia you need to sign your Fiji divorce application in front of a notary public, not a Justice of the Peace or a normal lawyer. Although a notary public is also a lawyer, a lawyer who does not hold additional qualifications to become a notary public then that lawyer cannot be a notary public as the notary public has the responsibility to notarise documents for use in other countries. You should confirm with your lawyer in Fiji the notarisation requirements for the Fiji divorce application prior to booking an appointment to see our Notary Public in Melbourne.

Deed of Renunciation for Fiji

If you plan on giving up your inheritance in Fiji after a family member has passed away, you will often be dealing with legal paperwork in relation to the deceased person’s estate. In most cases, paperwork prepared by Fiji lawyers that are signed in Australia will need to be witnessed and notarised by an Australian Notary Public.

If you are entitled to a share of the deceased person’s estate and agree to give up your right to that share so that another person can claim it, then you will need to sign a Deed of Renunciation. It is best practice to have a Deed of Renunciation prepared by a lawyer in Fiji. In this respect, the lawyer in Fiji will often send us the physical legal paperwork to our Melbourne CBD office for our clients to then sign in front of our Notary Public before we notarise the Deed. Before leaving our office, you should take photos of the signed and notarised Deed and confirm on the spot with your lawyer in Fiji. If they approve it, then you can post it to Fiji. You will need to confirm whether the Deed of Renunication for Fiji needs to be legalised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) with your Fiji lawyer. You should seek advice from your Fiji lawyer about the signing and notarising requirements before booking an appointment to avoid delay and additional costs arising from not following the procedure required in Fiji.
