Notarising your foreign language document in Melbourne

How can I notarise my foreign or non-English language document in Melbourne?

Notarising non-English documents

Most documents can be notarised without a Melbourne notary public speaking the other language besides English, but you should check with the end recipient of your document. In this respect, the requirement to be fluent in the other language is not paramount if the notary public is only witnessing your signature and verifying your identity. Our notary public Kin Wee Chua is fluent in English, Chinese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and Bahasa. Nevertheless, only English is needed if our notary public is performing the notarial witnessing function. 
 
Sometimes the document needs to be read and if the notary public cannot read it then it might need to be translated by an accredited translator. But not all documents written in another language besides English need to be translated. Our notary public will advise how to appropriately handle the matter. Usually the notary public will need to ensure the person signing the document understands the meaning of and agrees with the document’s contents. Our notary public has procedures in place to deal with all other languages besides English even if you also do not know the language of the document you are signing.
