Melbourne Public Notary for German Documents

Do you need documents notarised by a Melbourne Notary Public intended for Germany?

Our Melbourne Notary Public has helped a substantial number of German nationals and Australians with ties to Germany notarise documents for Germany and has been notarising documents for more than two decades. In brief, a notary public in Australia is a senior lawyer who can notarise documents which can then be used in another country. Each country has different requirements for notarisation, for Germany the documents will need to have an apostille stamp. An apostille stamp is issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) which certifies the document has been notarised by a notary public. 

Notarising documents for Germany in Melbourne

If you live in Melbourne and you need documents signed for use in Germany, you will need to sign your documents in front of a notary public and have DFAT’s Melbourne Passport Office apply an apostille stamp. We can help you with the notarisation and legalisation process for your overseas documents. You should confirm the content and format of the documents intended for Germany are correct before booking an appointment and attending our Melbourne CBD office. Once the document has been prepared and completed by you, please call our office and come in to sign the document and bring your photo identification documents and copies of your ID. We will then verify your identity, have your signature witnessed by our Melbourne Notary Public and then notarise your document. We can then arrange for DFAT to apply the apostille stamp.

German power of attorney (Vollmacht)

If you do not want to return to Germany, you can arrange for a power of attorney (vollmacht) to be signed and notarised by an Australian public notary in Melbourne. You will need to appoint an attorney (vollmachtnehmer) who can act on your behalf in Germany. You should speak to a lawyer in Germany to prepare a power of attorney to ensure it can be used in Germany and the notarisation requirements are met. Note, relying on power of attorney templates found online might not apply to your specific situation and our Melbourne Notary Public does not verify its content. To arrange for a German power of attorney to be signed in Melbourne, you must first ensure that the power of attorney can fulfil its purpose in dealing with your personal, property or business matters. Once the content and format have been finalised, our Melbourne Public Notary can witness and notarise the vollmacht and arrange for an apostille stamp to be applied by DFAT. Clients can arrange for the apostille stamp themselves or to save time our Melbourne Notary Public will correspond directly with DFAT to expedite the process. If you fail to complete the notarisation and legalisation process correctly, the document might be usable in Germany which will result in you having to incur further costs. Therefore, you should get the right advice about the notarisation requirements to avoid delay or cost.
